Association between income and the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

Resource Type:

These graphics show the association between the income status of a country and the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The underlying data were obtained from ResistanceMap and the World Bank, and the results were published in a recent study by CDDEP researchers and colleagues in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases.

The study found a significant negative association between national income and AMR among the three bacterial species analyzed. The association was stronger for third-generation cephalosporin-resistant Escherichia coli and Klebsiella sp than for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
